Each year a new workout trend arises, intending to shock the body with a more intense fitness routine. For 2016 there are several fitness trends making their way to the forefront that pledge to have you looking toned and slimmer in the New Year. Let’s take a look at four popular workouts designed to get you up and moving.

1. Aerial Yoga

This anti-gravity yoga moves beyond a normal yoga routine. While still promoting breathing, relaxation, body strength and flexibility, aerial yoga employs the use of a highly-durable fabric attached from the ceiling. This hammock-like material allows you to suspend all or parts of your body in the air. The fabric helps keep the body in correct form, thus gaining a more intense workout. Those with larger body frames will not need to worry as the heavyweight fabric can hold up to 2,000 pounds.

2. Wearable Fitness Technology

Smart watches or bands like Fitbit or Spire allows the wearer to track factors such as workouts, calories burned and breathing. Those who feel that they are being observed, even from their wristband, tend to be more accountable for their habits. Fitness companies that promote these wearable gadgets believe that having instance access to your fitness activity will enhance the overall desire to continue a healthy lifestyle.

High intensity interval training (HIIT) is the hottest trend that produces fast results. Using both aerobic and anaerobic routines, HIIT alternates highly rigorous activity with lower intensity exercise. This is a highly efficient workout that increases metabolism and can be completed in less than 30 minutes. Intense fitness routines have been proven effective in burning more calories and fat. Many gyms have already caught on to this newest trend and offer interval training classes.

4. Personal Trainers

This coming year is predicted to see a rise in the use of personal trainers. Anyone can study a fitness routine off of the internet, but it will not be tailored to you. It may not deliver the results you were hoping for. People are beginning to realize that there are many trainers out there with certified knowledge and understanding about how the human body works. Your trainer will personalize a fitness routine to your specific needs and limits. Some are even qualified to give advice on nutrition and personal wellbeing.

HIIT has done wonders for me. I have lost 15 pounds of fat and gained some mass in the process of working out this way for the last 30 days.

At first, I thought those FitBits were just going to be something I would lose after losing interest in them. That was not the case and I am glad that I am able to see my progress with each day!

I would be happy to get a personal trainer, if it did not cost my $50 per week!
